SUMMARY:Connector Trail Celebration Walk and Ribbon Cutting
DESCRIPTION:Evergreen Park & Recreation District (EPRD) invites the public to participate in a Community Walk on Wednesday\, June 3\, to celebrate the opening of the long-awaited Evergreen Lake Connector Trail\, followed by a ribbon cutting during the season's first Evergreen Lake Summer Concert.\n\n\n\nThe Walk will start at 5:30 PM in the parking lot in front of Beau Jo's Pizza in downtown Evergreen. Following a short ceremony recognizing the people and organizations that made the project a reality\, the group will traverse the new 200-foot sloped bridge that connects downtown to Evergreen Lake House. People with wheelchairs\, walkers and strollers are encouraged to join the walk\, which is about three-quarters of a mile.\n\n\n\nOfficials will cut the ribbon and officially kick off the trail at the Summer Concert at Evergreen Lake House at 6:15 PM. Participants are encouraged to remain afterward and enjoy the concert featuring Egg Planet\, which ends at 9 PM. Shuttle buses will be available to return walkers to their cars downtown.\n\n\n\nThe project was funded by a $250\,000 grant from Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) and a $30\,000 contribution from the Evergreen Legacy Fund (ELF)\, plus in-kind donations of services and material. The Legacy Fund is derived from a voluntary 1 percent donation on sales of products and services at businesses to support infrastructure.\n\n\n\nThe project was awarded to GoodLand Construction\, and work on the project began April 13. Progress was hampered and delayed by poor weather and the discovery of an area of instability under Highway 74\, but the project was completed by mid-May. The trail remains closed until railings are installed\, which are delayed by rain.
